Outburst! offers arts-related groups for young Muslim women in Toronto. The groups are open to anyone (16 – 26) who self-identifies as a Muslim woman through the spectrum of familial, spiritual, political, cultural and ancestral connections.
All the workshops are free of cost. TTC Tokens, Childcare & Language Interpretation are available upon request.

Homebound Poetry Workshops for Young Muslim Women with Rosina Kazi and Jamila Allidina – Fall 2014 to Winter 2015
“Homebound” is a nine-session poetry, spoken word, and editing workshop series that will explore the theme “The Future We Build”. This workshop will be an opportunity to learn from our Muslim women artists, be mentored by our amazing facilitators in the art of writing, performance and editing, and finally, write about, celebrate and share our experiences with our fellow Muslim women peers; all done in a space that is safe and free of judgment. In “Homebound” we seek to inspire, support, and have fun!

Truth and Dare Photography Project with Zahra Agjee – Fall 2014
Come to explore the theme “The Future We Build” through photography-based creative exploration. Truth & Dare is a FREE arts-based workshop series for young Muslim women interested in photography and mixed media facilitated by arts educator Zahra Agjee. Build your photography skills, make art, tell your stories and learn about amazing Muslim women artists. No previous experience needed!

Homebound Poetry Workshops for Young Muslim Women with Shadi Eskandani – Fall 2013
Homebound is a six week workshop series that will focus on the writing of poetry as a form of artistic expression, craft and healing. In our biweekly gatherings we will use our pen to explore the theme of “homebound” and “self-love” with the intent of publishing work(s). The group will be a safer space to speak and be heard. We will write to honour our experiences.
Creative Girls Crew – Graffiti/Mural Workshop with Narmeen Hashim- Fall 2013
On a weekly basis in Scarborough, a group of young women will meet to learn the craft of graffiti and mural with Arts Educator Narmeen Hashim. This workshop series will be focusing on the theme of “self-love”. All materials and snacks will be provided.
Truth and Dare Photography Project with Zahra Agjee – Winter 2014
Truth and Dare is a FREE workshop series for young Muslim women interested in photography facilitated by arts educator Zahra Agjee. Build your photography skills, take photos, tell your stories and learn about amazing Muslim women artists. No previous experience needed!
