Outburst! Young Muslim Women’s Program is an opportunity for young Muslim women in the Greater Toronto Area to build community through art, education, research and counseling.
We invite you to support our efforts to send the Outburst! leadership team of six young Muslim women to Chicago for INCITE! Colour of Violence Conference (COV) from March 26-29, 2015. Your contribution through monetary of $10 or more would offer critical support to six Outburst! program leaders to be able to attend this ground-breaking gathering. COV brings together anti-violence community groups, artists, educators from across North America to collaborate and share strategies with each other. Outburst! was chosen by INCITE! to lead a workshop at COV titled, “Profile This! Young Muslim Women Addressing Violence,” a grassroots response to addressing violence both within our communities and against our communities with organizations from Washington DC, New York and London Ontario. After the conference, we will be hosting a community talk back for community members to learn about COV on April 7th 2015. Save the date!
As young Muslim women we want to speak out and be heard. This award winning program is an opportunity for us to build community through leadership programming and events. We are coordinated by a team of six diverse young Muslim women with the support of a project coordinator and counselor/advocate. Outburst! is a program of the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, a charitable organization which provides legal representation, professional counselling and multilingual interpretation to 4,000 women each year who are experiencing violence.
Outburst! works to create opportunities for leadership and community development amongst young Muslim women. We want to foster their brilliance and genius. In this spirit, participation at this conference will be vital for our team. Your contribution can make our dream of COV happen!
