The purpose of #MuslimMenAreTold is to get a full understanding of the challenges Muslim men face.
This conversation aims to unpack what Muslim men have been told what a “real man” is.
We want to know where we learn about Muslim masculinity. How are these influenced by media, family, friends, community, religion, educational system, race and class? We know that this topic is complex and we want to open up respectful dialogue.
We are tired of seeing Muslim men in the media are portrayed as “barbaric”, “violent” and “suspicious”
while on the other hand the media wants to strip them of their Muslim identity. We are also tired of hearing that Muslim men are always controlling or are the natural decision makers. This is an opportunity to deconstruct what has been said about Muslim men by the media, literature and “experts”.
